Mochi Making & Meeting Tochigi Governor! - 餅つきと栃木の知事に会いました!

Hey everyone! It's already December! It's hard to believe how fast 2013 has passed. Being that it's December, that means it's mochi making season in Japan. For those who are unaware, mochi is a rice cake that is made by pounding mochi rice with mallets until it turns into a sort of gooey cake. Mochi is a very famous treat in Japan and other Asian cultures.

On December 1st, the governor of Tochigi Prefecture hosted a mochi making event. The governor lives close by and I was invited by my friends Heather and Kats to go with them to the event.

There was a decent sized crowd and not only the governor, but other local political figures were there as well. I was honored to be able to participate in making some mochi for the event, as well as meeting the governor himself. And of course, eating fresh mochi!

I've also uploaded a video of the event and of me making mochi as well! Check it out!
