Sitting Through a Typhoon - 台風が来た!

Typhoon number 18 has made landfall, and while the rain mostly came yesterday, the wind is in full force today. As I sit, with windows open and the wind billowing through my apartment, I feel a sense of calm and motivation. This isn't the first typhoon I've experienced in Japan, and probably it won't be the last. I also grew up in the state of Texas and we get our fair share of hurricanes, tropical storms, and tornadoes as well. This typhoon is relatively mild compared to others.

But to me, this is signaling the approaching changing of the season to autumn. Autumn in Japan is my favorite time of the year. The temperatures are nice and cool and the best part is the changing of the leaves! Tochigi is host to Nikko, which has some of the most beautiful autumn leaves I've ever experienced. I had the privilege of seeing them firsthand about four years ago. I went at sunrise and they were absolutely breathtaking. Here are just some examples:

I hope to return this year and get even more great shots of this wonderful area.

I know I've been a bit lax on updating my blog. No excuse but pure laziness to be honest. The summer heat makes me a bit sluggish and unmotivated to write. I also find that when I don't write often, my skill diminishes somewhat. So this is a declaration of motivation for me. I hope to write more and write often. Not only to keep all of you updated, but to hone my own skills and improve my thought process. A lot of this blog is just a stream of consciousness with no real goal set for each post. That's how I want to keep it mostly, but also keep it related to Japan. I'm sure some of you may have noticed a decline in the number of posts on this blog. There is a reason for that, in which I will reveal in time. But now is the time to move forward. I want to set a goal to get in at least 1 or 2 posts in a week. I think that is a healthy and achievable goal. Instead of doing one every day, which I don't feel I could meet at this point. So 1 or 2 posts a week to begin with and I will see where I go from there.

I hope you all keep me accountable for that! The second part of my summer vacation with Mom is coming soon, so don't worry. Until next time, I'll try not to be blown away!
