Trip to Kobugahara - 古峰ヶ原

Hey guys! I hope everyone is having a great summer! Recently, I took a trip with some friends to a nearby area in Tochigi called Kobugahara. The area is near Kanuma, which is West of Utsunomiya, and is a bit secluded. I think Tochigi prefecture has some of the best natural beauty. Especially during the summer and fall.

First, we traveled to a river to cool off and to have a small barbecue. The natural beauty of the river was absolutely stunning!

No matter how many times I see this picture, I'm always in awe. This is exactly how this spot appeared. It really lets you appreciate the natural beauty that is still left on this planet that is relatively untouched by people.

After we finished barbecuing and loaded back up, we traveled to the nearby temple in Kobugahara.

Entrance to Kobugahara Temple

As with the entrance to most temples, here is the cleaning area before you enter.

Tengu statue at Kobugahara Temple

There was a rather large tengu (goblin) statue near the entrance. If you look closely, people have put money to form his teeth.

The way to Kobugahara Garden

There is also a nice garden near the temple. Here is the bridge to the entrance to the garden.

This are had to be the most serene and peaceful area of the garden. It almost feels right out of a fairytale forest.

Out of the forest and into the pond area.

And here's a video I took walking through various areas of the garden:

The pond was filled with what could best be described as "ravenous" carp. By simply walking to the edge of the water, you'll see them torpedoing toward you, mouths agape begging for food.

I'd love to travel to this area again. It's a nice and peaceful area that not many people venture to.
